Xbox Live’s Major Nelson talks about Xbox 360 micropayments on G4TV

Xbox Live‘s Director of Programming Major Nelson answered micro-payment questions on G4TV last Wednesday with “It’s about the choice”. Take a peek at ‘The Loop’ segment of ‘Attack of the Show’ presented by Kevin Pereira:
Andrew Pfister, Editor of 1UP, joined Major Nelson on the panel, playing the role of the gamer. Andrew said, “It doesn’t appear that anyone is in control of the situation. You have publishers like EA doing their own thing, you have publishers like Atari doing their own thing, and you even have small publishers like Q Entertainment…”

Andrew represented the case properly, stating that the problem with Lumines Live is not that the game is segmented but how it’s represented on Xbox Live Arcade.

Before Major Nelson even answered a question, he decided to remind us that the people behind Xbox Live (aside of the Lawyers and millionaires) are gamers and that “Xbox Live didn’t get to be 4 million users strong by not listening….that’s what we do, we listen to the gamers.” He then stated, “It’s about choice” and basically, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

Andrew counter punched, saying that the real problem here is that $59 games are then piling on over-priced, undervalued micro-transactions. Via Aeropause

I think this micro payment thing can really turn into a macro payment if the publishers content charges aren’t kept in check by XBox Live. It seems completely unreasonable to expect that you bought a full game like Lumines Live and find out you only got the “Base” version and that you need to pay another $5 to unlock the next major portion of the game. I bought Lumines Live and I was disappointed by this realization afterwards. I really believed that the Advanced pack was extra content, not core content. This issue with the Godfather just makes me not want to even think about buying the game now.

If you think the Godfather is EA at its worst, then you haven’t seen their new unlock-all-stages pack on Xbox Live (I think it was for Tiger Woods Golf 07). I hate to think that something as simple as including a cheatcode that unlocks the next levels is now no longer a matter of pressing some buttons at the start screen :-/

PWhy do always those spokesperson Talk in snetences with FUll stops where commas are supposed to be :P and Giving that “look” when they stop in between senteces.

The Unlock all levels thing is So funny to think of! I mean How stupid do they think people are?
