World of Warcraft Expansion: Burning CrusadeBlizzard Entertainment today announced that the release date for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the first expansion for World of Warcraft, is delayed until January 2007. By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game.

“We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.”

Blizzard began the closed-beta phase of testing on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade earlier this month. The January 2007 release window will allow extra time for current beta testers to participate in the final stages of development and continue providing valuable feedback.

Further information on specific worldwide release dates, pricing, and other details will be announced later. Via WoW

I can’t find a similar news article on an official Blizzard site. Does someone have a link or is this a hoax?

I find it hard to believe Blizzard would choose to miss out on the Christmass sales.

Christmas sales are going to be preorders from parents to their kids. If you plan on buying this at the stores then you are retarded. Its preorder and probably sold out.

Awesome, more time they spend working on it, lower the chance that it will have bugs!

post christmas sales…meh as for the holidays…so doesn’t this mean that there will be less whining kids on BC when it is released ? HA!

Hasn’t their server problems taught you guys anything? They want to release a stable good quality product, or at least try to.
Shorter beta = crappy product = tons of complaints from whiners like the guys complaining about this getting moved back.
Anyone remember Diablo 2? Blizz cancelled Christmas TWICE on that one!

I’d like to see them polish up the 60-65 content & release it in December. Then Polish up the 65-70 content in the month of December and release that in downloadable patches… but you can’t always get what you want… :’(

as a player in the closed beta test, I will say that this is a good thing. There are way too many bugs still in it to hope to make a November ship date. If they did ship it , I am sure they would have to leave dungeons and other areas closed at first then open them later. I’m sure the community would be up in arms over that if that happened.
