“What Could This Be?” is Nintendo’s new catch phrase for the Wii in Japan (and possibly worldwide). Kotaku found the first commercial and translate it as saying “What’s this? It’s a new remote controller. Nintendo Wii remote controller.”

Nintendo of Japan today held a surprise conference like they do every couple of months there, 4CR reports the facts:

* Shigeru Miyamoto announced “Health Pack” (codename) for Wii, which is related to Family Health Check. This sounds like its the Wii Diet Game mentioned a while back.
* Starting next spring, Nintendo will start selling “Wii Compact Software”, presumably downloadable games (i.e., no disc or manual).
* Big Brain Academy Wii announced for Spring 2007.
* 18 Wii games for Japan in 2006.
* Around 60 Virtual Console games by the end of 2006, including PC Engine (Turbografx 16) and Sega MegaDrive (Genesis).
* New Wii-Experience videos have been put online, these show first timers playing Wii, quite fun to see :)
* Zelda: Twilight Princess for Gamecube will be sold only online in Japan to prevent confusion with the Wii version (and of course to drive up sales of the latter).
* The planning should be similar to DS strategy.
* A new cooking guide titled “DS Menu Collection” (similar to cooking Navi) announced for DS, will have 1000 built-in recipes. The new cooking game has a magnet stand so you can put your DS on your fridge while you cook. Magnet stand costs 1200yen. Also Wi-Fi compatible.

Wii accessories announced were:

* Wii points Prepaid card
* Wii points Prepaid card 1000 (1000 Yen) – 1000 Wii points
* Wii points Prepaid card 3000 (3000 Yen) – 3000 Wii points
* Wii points Prepaid card 5000 (5000 Yen) – 5000 Wii points + classic Controller
* Power brick 3,000 Yen
* Composite 1,000 Yen
* S-Video 2,500 Yen
* D terminal 2,500 Yen
* Component 2,500 Yen
* 512MB SD Card 3,800 Yen

    Those circles in the graphic at the beginning remind me of xbox360 commercials, except that they are blue.
