First PS3 pre-orders sell out in 1 day

Sony PlayStation 3GameStop (and EBGames) announced yesterday that on the same day they started taking pre-orders for Sony’s PlayStation 3, they were now sold out in their 3,600 stores, with some stores only taking as few as six (to sixteen) orders. Eager customers had been queuing for hours outside stores to pay their $100 deposit, which guarantees them one of the first 400,000 US-bound PS3s (mostly the 60GB $600 version) on launch day November 17th.

In November 2005, eBay.com was swamped with listings for the hard-to-come-by Xbox 360. Now, those same hoarders have been placing PS3 pre-orders and then immediately pre-selling the console themselves for a huge profit on eBay. Take a look at this PS3 auction that sold for $1,500!!! Thanks to Reetesh for sending in this expected news, since in 2006 we’ll see PS3 shortages as demand outstrips production.
