Next-Gen Turok teaser trailer (PS3 and Xbox 360)
Turok has been revived thanks to Buena Vista Games (a.k.a. Disney, who is publishing). They are releasing a brand new Turok game developed on Unreal Engine 3. It’s scheduled for release on the PS3 & Xbox 360 sometime in 2007.
The new game has no ties to previous games in the series as Propaganda Games (the developer) takes the franchise in a completely new direction. Playing as Joseph Turok, you’re team of black-ops soldiers is shot-down while trying to land their spaceship (yes, space ship) while in search of Roland Cain, the game’s antagonist, who is on the planet with his own group of soldiers.
Dinosaurs are in the game, thankfully, and will hopefully play a larger role. They are neutral, obviously, and will attack anyone within range. The gameplay is both stealth and action based (played from 1st-person with 3rd-person viewpoints during certain situations) with the usual assortment of FPS weapons including pistols, shotguns, machine guns and Turok’s bow and arrow. If the game doesn’t contain any of the unique and very cool alien weapons from previous games I’ll be disappointed. Vehicles will apparently also be available at some point.
It’s a cool teaser, though I was hoping they’d show more gameplay. Looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the first real trailer. As a big fan of the first game on Nintendo 64 (which I reviewed) I’m a bit disheartened that Turok is no longer a Native American. Tough marine guys are a dime a dozen, and I doubt Turok will do it any better than Gears of War. But let’s keep our fingers crossed that this new game is great enough to completely revive the franchise. I’m still holding out hope for a Turok compilation containing all the old games. If this game is a hit hopefully we’ll get one.
