MTV’s Overdrive game site show G-Hole got a preview of Guitar Hero II for the PS2, which is due November 7th in the U.S. It looks like MTV wasn’t supposed to share nearly all the song names they saw though, and probably after a firm warning from developer Harmonix, they were quick to remove/sensor all the new Guitar Hero II songs from the video. Lucky for us, Guitar Hero II forumer Rhino4evr wrote all the new song (making a total of 38 songs out of 55 now!) names down and guessed the most likely artists. List here!

That’s 38 Songs announced. There are only supposed to be 40 liscensed songs, plus 15 bonus songs. That only leaves two songs left to be announced.
Update: Thanks for all your additions folks, you rock!
For those arguing who’s version of which songs they’ll be using… please be aware that every song on GH1 was a _COVER_. No original material was used in the game.
I read a blog by the guy who was the bassist for GH2 (recording the covers), and he talks about how great it was to get to cover Flea. So unless another Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of the two unannounced tracks, its probably a cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ version of Search and Destroy, not the Stooges.
A bunch of good ones on the list so far, and yeah i’m really glad to see some ratm on there too…one of the greatest bands of all time.
Chuy, about the songs being covers: At least one group (Primus) allowed their original recording to be used for Guitar Hero II, and I think I heard that at least one other group did as well, although I can’t remember who it is offhand.

Well yes, but there are covers and there are covers. I’m assuming that the songs in GH2 will be as close to note-for-note as the cover band can get, rather than “interpretations”.
Woman is by Wolfmother, and recently. I seriously doubt someone has remade that.
The Beast and the _Harlot_ is Aveneged Sevenfold.
Jane’s Addiction is pretty distinct.. there shouldn’t be a question of ‘Stop’
How does one confuse Matthew Sweet and The Darkness?
I could go on about the corrections, but, man… read what you’ve written before posting. Van Halan???
sweeeeeet… laid to rest by lamb of god… super sweeeeeet…
“How does one confuse Matthew Sweet and The Darkness?”
Maybe when you only know the song title? Just a guess. Also why the OP wasn’t sure of the Wolfmother song. Also don’t go all english teacher on someone if you’re just going to put commas BEFORE AND AFTER the word “but”.
The song/artist listed as “Freya - Sword” should be the other way around. Freya is the artist, not the song title, and vice versa. They play crazy epic metal, which should be exciting.
Now where the hell is my Iron Maiden?!?
“The song/artist listed as “Freya - Sword†should be the other way around. Freya is the artist, not the song title, and vice versa.”
Actually, there is a band called The Sword and they have a song named Freya on their album Age of Winters. Very cool band with good riffs, so I can easily see their songs being used for this game.
