No Sega Genesis games on PS3?

Innovations 230312 Sega Genesis Game PadLast week at Sony’s Ken Kutaragi’s TGS 2006 keynote speech revealed that the PS3 would be backwards compatible with 16-bit games on the MegaDrive/Genesis, much like the Nintendo Wii. Oddly enough SEGA Japan has issued a short statement clarifying that such claims are not correct at this point, that the option is merely being considered, and is currently “under examination.”

Another last minute addition that’s not copied from the competition? Zing! Yeah I went there, but seriously, let’s hope Sega consider it a positive matter classic Sonic and the Genesis archive can appear on the PS3 as well. Via WP

Whats the point of trying to build in 16 bit console support into a new console? Have they learned nothing from the hacking community, its called an EMULATOR! I mean christ, I have played GENESIS games on my old XBox, and Super Nintendo games on my PSP, all emulated. Not like the PS3 doesnt have the hardware power to run the emu, they just need to quit being stupid about it.

They are talking about DOWNLOAD ROMS that is the Main Criteria getting a Emulator is easy for them.. But Sony wants the Rights to digitally distribute Genesis games(for which it will charge gamers) from Sega.

Yeah thats fine to have it in a legal ROM perspective, probably wrapped and embedded in some modified emulator and sell it that way, most of the work has been done for them already. And Im not trying to promote illegal usage of downloading roms, just merely state that if Sony does it first, they stand a chance of making money on it, but wait too long, somebody else will figure out how to get the illegal type of ROMS up and running on the PS3, like they have on every other console out already.

Hmm, using some common sence it would seem that since its possible to run a linux distro on this console it may be possible to execute an emulator.

Assuming in the worst case scenario that theres no working emulator for the specific platform you want to emulate on the compatable linux distro, im sure a copy of VMware should be able to launch an emulated copy of windows.

Although why youd wanna defile a ps3 this badly is beyond me ;)

Happy hacking lol
