King’s Quest, Space Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry classic Sierra compilations coming to PC (Windows XP)

Sierra is finally re-releasing their classic PC adventure games in America for Windows XP users at a price of $19.99 on September 15, 2006.

King's Quest CompilationThe King’s Quest Compilation with 7 complete games includes: King’s Quest I: Quest for the Crown (1984 & enhanced SCI version released in 1990), King’s Quest II: Romancing the Throne (1985), King’s Quest III: To Heir Is Human (1986), King’s Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella (1988), King’s Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder! (1990), King’s Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow (1992), King’s Quest VII: The Princeless Bride (1994).

Space Quest CompilationThe Space Quest Compilation with 6 complete games includes: Space Quest I: The Sarien Encounter (1986 & enhanced VGA version released in 1991), Space Quest II: Vohaul’s Revenge (1987), Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pestulon (1989), Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers (1991), Space Quest V: The Next Mutation (1993), Space Quest 6: The Spinal Frontier (1995).

Leisure Suit Larry CompilationThe Leisure Suit Larry Compilation with 5 full games includes: Leisure Suit Larry 1: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards (1987 & remade VGA version released in 1991), Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love (in Several Wrong Places), or Leisure Suit Larry 2 (1988), Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals (1989), Leisure Suit Larry 4: The Missing Floppies (does not exist 😛 explained below*), Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work (1991), Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up or Slip Out! (1993, CD version released in 1994).

* It’s a running joke that that series creator Al Lowe’s dog ate the original production floppies in 1990. In reality Sierra had tried to create an online gaming world, The Sierra Network, a precursor of today’s MMORPGs based on Larry, which would be the real Larry 4. This failed due largely to technical reasons, and a planned multiplayer Larry game on the network was shelved.

Sierra Entertainment has a rich history of classic adventure games as you can see. It looks like these compilations will be well worth the $19 it costs to pick each of the sets up. Although I’m left wondering why Vivendi didn’t include Sierra’s Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail! (from 1996). Maybe it’s because they didn’t want to include any games beyond 1995.
