PlayStation 3 European launch delayed until March 2007

The launch of Sony’s PlayStation 3 games console in Europe has been delayed until March 2007. Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony’s global computer entertainment division, said the machine would still be launched in November 11th in Japan and November 17th in the US.

Mr Kutaragi blamed the European delay on problems in mass producing elements of the high-definition Blu-ray disc drives in the machines. Sony Group’s production schedule couldn’t come up with enough blue laser diodes. Sony said it still aimed to ship six million new PlayStations by March… just not in Europe

This unfortunate turn of events doesn’t only affect Europe, the same delay counts for other PAL territories Australasia, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. So much for that repeatedly promised worldwide PS3 release. Via BBC

Ray Maguire, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, was quoted as saying “We are extremely disappointed at news of this delay. We can truly empathise with everyone who was looking forward to PS3′s imminent release. We will however be working tirelessly to ensure that the March 2007 launch is the biggest and best in the company’s history.”

Also the Europe versions will be tweaked to remove the intial launch defects(if any) so they will get a good system which need not be returned or whatever for fixing.

The graphics are the same, the PS3 offers few interesting exclusive titles and now it won’t be available in Europe and will be impossible to find in North America.

God bless America. I cant wait till the store i work at gets the ps3 because we are going to horde them just like the Xbox 360. looks like ill be sellin ps3,s on ebay to euro gamers for a $1000 plus.
