PlayStation 3 European launch delayed until March 2007

The launch of Sony’s PlayStation 3 games console in Europe has been delayed until March 2007. Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony’s global computer entertainment division, said the machine would still be launched in November 11th in Japan and November 17th in the US.

Mr Kutaragi blamed the European delay on problems in mass producing elements of the high-definition Blu-ray disc drives in the machines. Sony Group’s production schedule couldn’t come up with enough blue laser diodes. Sony said it still aimed to ship six million new PlayStations by March… just not in Europe

This unfortunate turn of events doesn’t only affect Europe, the same delay counts for other PAL territories Australasia, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. So much for that repeatedly promised worldwide PS3 release. Via BBC

Ray Maguire, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, was quoted as saying “We are extremely disappointed at news of this delay. We can truly empathise with everyone who was looking forward to PS3’s imminent release. We will however be working tirelessly to ensure that the March 2007 launch is the biggest and best in the company’s history.”

Hope India is in line with Japan or US release.. I can even THINK of waiting THAT long to get my hands on PS3….wait… Japan has PAL right… or only europe has pal systems?? India always has pal systems… NOOOOOo I cant get a PS3 till then:|

I really hate SONY for this, in fact im now not going to buy a PS3 when it eventually comes out, theyve lost at least one loyal customer already and I expect many more will be equally angry!

I’m with Arkwirght. Just about every piece of electronics equipment I own is Sony. Not any more. Too many lies this time guys.

I am truely dissapointed on this new i just pre ordered my PS3 yesterday! I wish that sony would take other countrys more sirious! aint it about time europe had something first!!!! this is where they will make there money anyway! grr tut tut sony!!

I have been for ages trying to tell Sony fanboys that Sony are taking you all for one long ride - lie after lie after lie.

Also hows them Ken quotes:

‘I can launch the PS3 whenever I want’
‘The PS3 will launch this Spring’ - yeah say that next year Ken well done!

The Xbox 360 is a GAMES CONSOLE get one while its hot people!

You all are makeing such a big deal out of Sony not being able to manufacture as many systems as they previously announced yet MS was in the exact same boat as Sony. So don’t sound off stating that Sony always dissappoints because MS had the same problem last year and couldn’t manage to release as many consoles as they projected.

if there is a DELAY it doesnt mean sony is BAD:| and i dont I will buy any next gen console till every one is out in themarket for a Month or two.
