Tecmo brings classics to Nintendo Wii Virtual Console

Tecmo, the maker of the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series announced as part of a financial report issued on August 28th, that the company will support the Wii’s Virtual Console “aggressively.” Specifics were not revealed to IGN.

Other areas mentioned in the financial report, are a worldwide simultaneous launch for Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 on Xbox 360 and a promise to tackle new titles, with the Wii’s Super Swing Golf Pangya given as an example. The company didn’t make mention of Xbox Live Arcade or Sony’s PS3 download service.

It looks like our crew member astrotriforce was right on the money in reviewing the entire NES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy in advance (see our “Easy Review Links” in the left menu), because it’s very likely you’ll be download them and other classics like Tecmo Bowl later this year.

Other NES, SNES & Genesis possibilities include: Mighty Bomb Jack, Solomon’s Key 1 & 2, Rygar, Tecmo Baseball, Tecmo World Wrestling, Star Force, Secret of the Stars, Tecmo Super Bowl 1 & 2 & 3, Tecmo Super Hockey, Tecmo Super Baseball.

A classic like Tecmo Superbowl should get the lisence to ramake it 100% the same with only player and team updates. they could sell a lot with out affecting madden, as madden is a completly different from game from tecmo superbowl. That would be amazing if they did that.

Actually I believe Tecmo already paid for the 1991 license .. I dont see any reason they couldn’t just use the old names from the 1991 season… they had the rights to it.. EA will piss me off if they ruin that for gamers… Tecmo is such a fun game..

I will buy Wii if they come out with Tecmo Super Bowl. They shouldn’t have a problem with the licensing, because the game pre-dates the contract with EA. I hope they’ll also be putting on all of the old Maddens and the OG Tecmo Bowl. I love playing with all of the throwback teams.

I gave my buddy my old Tecmo Super Bowl about 3 years ago… whenever he has parties we all get drunk and play a few rounds of Tecmo Super Bowl… it’s the best game ever.

i’m still playing tecmo bowl for snes.
if i want a realistic game of football i, i watch it on t.v. not playing john frekin madden. i’ve been waiting for years for a new release of tsb. i’m hoping they put it online and league play. i live in canada where most aren’t enthusiastic about football let alone tsb. Cool to know there’s a huge cult following of people who are as obsessed with tecmo super bowl as i am

In 2007 Tecmo released Ninja Gaiden 1, Ninja Gaiden 2, Tecmo Bowl and Mighty Bomb Jack on the Wii Virtual Console.
