Crysis can only run on Windows Vista (and XP)
Update January 10th 2007: Readers with keen eyes spotted an error in what Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, said. He was quoted in our original newsitem as saying: only DirectX API, which will ship along with Windows Vista, allows the game to run as it was intended. Now it turns out, both Windows XP and Vista will be able to run the game, to explain here’s an overview.
Minimum Requirements Software: DirectX9.0c with Windows XP.
Recommended Requirements Software: DirectX10 with Windows Vista.
Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don’t offer enough computational power to run Crysis.
Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, the developer claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.
Diemer explained that “next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power†to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis. I was going to go with “Your next-gen consoles can’t handle our game Crysis!” as a headline, but if there’s money to be earned, well they might find a way once it’s released on PC after all. I hate to use the word downgrade, but if they want it you might get it. Via Teamxbox
