William Shatner voices Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Legacy (all Star Trek captains return!)
Yay! William Shatner will do the voice of Captain Kirk in Bethesda’s Star Trek: Legacy game for PC & Xbox 360.
“I couldn’t imagine someone else playing Captain Kirk, even in a videogame, so I kind of got a little territorial,” the actor told Yahoo recently when discussing the role.
Shatner went on to say that interest in Star Trek has fallen off over the last couple of years, but he hopes Bethesda’s project can re-ignite Star Trek’s popularity. “It’s been around a long time, it’s a staple of American life and I think we need something new and different in Star Trek”, he commented.
“If it’s a good game, keeping true to the characters the best they can and having an interesting story that branches, I think a game can bring a freshness to a franchise like Star Trek,’ Shatner added.
News of Shatner’s involvement in Legacy comes only days after Bethesda revealed it has secured the talents of veteran Star Trek scriptwriter Dorothy “D.C.” Fontana for its game.

Star Trek Legacy, spanning the history of Star Trek, will be released on PC & Xbox 360 on October 16, 2006. Beam me up Scotty!
“We are absolutely thrilled to have the five actors who portrayed the STAR TREK captains take part in this project,” said Todd Vaughn, vice president of development, Bethesda Softworks. “Their participation, especially since it takes place during the series’ 40th anniversary, will add to the fun and excitement of the game and emphasizes our commitment to provide fans with the most authentic STAR TREK experience possible.”
The five actors will reprise their roles from their respective series as follows:
* William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk from the STAR TREK: The Original Series – 1966-1969
* Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard from STAR TREK: The Next Generation – 1987-1994
* Avery Brooks as Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko from STAR TREK: Deep Space Nine –1993-1999
* Kate Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway from STAR TREK: Voyager – 1995-2001
* Scott Bakula as Captain Jonathan Archer in STAR TREK: Enterprise – 2001-2005
