Wow, it's been a while, when you think about it. And it's so obviously now meant as a children's show, but this theme song reminded me of the original spirit of the turtles: darker than the later "hero turtles" that got softened with lamer plots and moral lessons. I haven't personally seen the new turtles cartoon (looks quite sinister and cool, but I'm too old, alas :) but I remember the really old turtles cartoon having that edgy 80s cool about it: plenty of ninja-weapon action and a rock soundtrack.
