First look at Frontlines: Fuel of War
The first project for Kaos Studios (a division of THQ founded by veterans of Trauma Studios, creators of Desert Combat and Battlefield 2 R&D projects), Frontlines: Fuel of War uses the advanced Unreal 3 engine for futuristic, intense fights in an open-world battlefield. Due for release Fall 2007 on PC, Xbox 360 & PS3.
In this all-too-bleak future of constant wars over natural resources, two sides compete for global supremacy: the Western Coalition (the United States and the European Union) and the Red Star Alliance (Russian/People’s Republic of China). The game’s nonlinear single-player campaign has players advancing their side’s frontline into enemy territory.
Features:
- Over 60 next-generation vehicles and weapons inspired by military designs for the near future. This includes remote controlled drones, gun cams, and next-generation counter-measures systems, all player-controllable.
- Use high-tech combat systems to collect and relay recon, targeting, and threat information between team mates.
- Players may grow their soldier to fit their play style by choosing a weapons loadout, as well as a technical specialization (role). Each role will also upgrade to provide advanced equipment and abilities. The customization is a mix of RPG-like depth and FPS accessibility.
- Both in single and multiplayer, players join the forces on the frontline. This front requires successful achievement of the non-linear, contextual objectives in order to move forward. The frontline combat system rewards advancement and keeps players right in the midst of the action.
- Take advantage of a sandbox of destructible elements to create a unique path to victory and strategy through each mission. Instead of failing and re-playing the same sequence of events, players can ‘chip-away’ with varied approaches.
