Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) to host Microsoft & Nintendo
The extremely popular video game focused web-comic site Penny Arcade has held it’s own annual expo that’s grown significantely in size over the years. The newest show, PAX 2006 (which will be held August 25 to 27 in Bellevue, Washington) will take up space in three seperate hotels. The largest yet and offer huge areas set-aside for LAN gaming, tabletop gaming, and console play.
The best part of PAX though is the fact that gamers will get to try their hand on a number of unreleased and upcoming games from a plethora of game companies including heavyweights (and fellow Washington state PAX neighbors) Microsoft and Nintendo.
This year there will be more of everything PAX showgoers have come to expect, including a number of conference sessions, parties, the huge Omegathon III gaming tournament and nightly concerts by the likes of: Mike Relm, The Minibosses, MC Frontalot, Optimus Rhyme, The Video Game Pianist, and the Neskimos. ![]()
Industry panels will also be a big part of the event, as always, and this year there will be a keynote address by former Microsoft employee Alex St. John on “The Prehistory of the Xbox”. Alex is now the CEO and founder of WildTangent, his involvement in Microsoft’s DirectX technology and the creation of the Xbox has been chronicled in a number of books, including Opening the Xbox by Dean Takahashi and Masters of Doom by David Kushner.
This year has already been extremely successful for Penny Arcade as all exhibition space has already sold out! Other participating companies include: Nvidia, ArenaNet, America’s Army, Turbine, NCsoft, Ubisoft, Rockstar, Mythic, Foundation 9, Red Octane, Flying Lab, Creative Labs, The Behemoth, Sabretooth Games, Garage Games and the 1up.com Network.
