EU DS Lite launches, New Super Mario Bros. sells half a million in US
Today the DS Lite had a quiet launch in the EU. The system was available in two colors, black and white. The system sold for £99.99/€149.99 ($179/$191) and was trucked out with very little fanfare. A far cry from the lines of gamers who stood outside, starting at midnight in some places, to get their mitts on a DS Lite in the U.S. and Japan. It’s still to be seen how well the DS Lite sells in Europe.
And in related DS News, Nintendo has announced that New Super Mario Bros. has already sold in excess of 500,000 copies since it’s American debut on May 15th. With only half a million more to go, the game is likely to reach the coveted one million mark only a few months after launch. Nintendo estimates that the numbers translate to 20 copies of the game sold every minute! New Super Mario Bros. has consistently been on the top of the charts since it’s release and shows no signs of slowing. PS: The game sold 1,678,646 copies in Japan since the launch there May 25!
