Tim Schafer pleads for gamer’s help in making Psychonauts Xbox 360-compatible

Psychonauts for PCPsychonauts was released on April 19, 2005 and would go on to win numerous rewards from video game publications as well as recieve great reviews across the board. Sadly, the game didn’t sell well at retail and the quirky platformer was said to be, in part, responsible for Majesco’s financial troubles.

But the game is beloved by video gamers everywhere who know what good games are made of, and thus Tim Schafer is now pleading for those gamer’s help in writing Microsoft to let them know how much they love Psychonauts and that Microsoft needs to make the game playable on the Xbox 360.

After likening his own request to Microsoft for making the game backward compatible to the final exchange in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schafer asks gamers to write into Microsoft’s backward-compatibility-info e-mail account (which is: backcomp@microsoft.com. Now get to writing!) to make software emulators for the game.

On Double Fine’s web-site, Schafer had this to say, “I want you to…send Microsoft a heartfelt message. Something to the effect of, ‘I am a 9-year-old boy in the hospital, dying of consumption, and my last wish is to play Psychonauts on my XBOX 360!’ (Please, try to make up your own disease.)” :D

The Day After Update: A Microsoft employee on the backwards compatibility team broke silence. “Rest assured, we are working on Psychonauts,” he said. There was, however, no timeline provided for the update.
