Xbox 360 Video Game System (Fully-Loaded)Earlier this month we reported on comments made by Microsoft’s head of Interactive Entertainment, Peter Moore, which made it appear as if the company was not looking to work on making many more original Xbox titles backwards compatible with the Xbox 360. To quote: “Nobody is concerned anymore about backwards compatibility. We under promised and over delivered on that.”

In an interview on Major Nelson’s podcast, Peter Moore took the opportunity to backtrack and even apologize to the gaming community for what he said. Many gaming forums were in an uproar after hearing about what Moore had said regarding backwards compatibility. Moore said that it was simply a misunderstanding, though, and that people took “concerned” to mean “cared.”

Whether or not you consider this to be damage control on Microsoft’s part, Moore was perhaps overly apologetic about his previous comments, which he said may have caused “trauma” for some gamers. He went on to say that he was sorry “for all the trauma I caused the gaming community.”

He continued by saying that Microsoft actually cares very much about backwards compatibility and still hopes to make every original Xbox title playable on 360. “It’s quite simply not that we don’t care about backward compatibility. Boy, do we care about backward compatibility… We’re going to get darn close to that stated goal of every title done,” Moore promised.

It was previously mentioned that another backwards compatibility update would be “coming soon.” In the interview, however, Moore revealed that the update is now scheduled to become available in about a week and will feature support for 20 more titles, not just 12 as had been reported initially, including popular games such as Doom III and Lego Star Wars.
