Nintendo Wii Price = $249.99 / €249 / £179 + free game!

Nintendo WiiBack in May Nintendo revealed to Famitsu.com, at the company’s recent press conference unveiling its financial results, that Wii would arrive in Japanese stores with a maximum price tag of 25,000 yen.

Let’s break this maximum price down to global prices, by comparing it with the upcoming DS Lite. The Japanese price of 16800 yen converts directly into $150 / €117 / £80. Of course due to US prices being listed without taxes, additional shipping to Europe and added taxes there of up to 20% are already included in the price, so it comes down to the official global prices of $130 / €150 (+28.2%) / £100 (+25%).

Looking at the Wii price of 25,000 yen, that converts directly into $223 / €175 / £119. When deciding regional prices for their products they can’t just stay with the nearest number, but they can round it off so it’s easy for customers to pay for at the store. Keeping that in mind, we can expect the Wii prices to be: $225 / €225 / £150 !!

Add in a second controller and you’re at $250, you’re going to get at least one new game, which puts you at $300. Perhaps these low prices are why Nintendo has predicted on the same press conference that sales of six million units by March 2007 are achievable for the Wii.

  • who cares?

i am saving my money up, just like the poster “your mom” I have $150 right now, and i still have a couple of months to go, and nintendo 64 got less than the pre price of $250. So to break it down, it will be close to see if i actully have enough money to buy the wii depending on what the REAL price is and plus going down to when the wii comes out.

wii has this in the bag, rite now i have an xbox 360 cus i thought that xbox would win the console war, but looks like wii is going to be the winner, i wont be surprised if the PS3 turns into another dreamcast lol. come xmas parents are going to go to games shops around the world, they will either have the choice of a $600 ps3, a reduced price xbox 360 at about $300 or the wii for $225 some will go for the xbox nd some will go for the wii, and the ps3 will be the only one left on the shelves after xmas. as for europe there will only be 2 consoles, because ps3 is hitting the shelves in march, by that time everyone will have a console and PS3 will have to wait for next christmas, but no1 will buy it because everone has a consloe. you can buy a wii and an xbox 360 for the same money as a ps3 lol ps3 is doooooommmmmedd

you gotta give it to nintendo, they know what they are doing..sony and microsoft dont.nintendo will eventually hit that seven million mark. the price of the wii in comparison to the ps3 is going to be a selling point..but let us remember that event though sony is gonna lose LOTS of money for every console they sell..they will definitely gain it back in dev kits, game sells…but im going for nintendo!

As part of the Nintendo generation I say: Go Team!
Nintendo is the only company that realizes that games are more than fancy graphics; games are about storylines, depth and replay value. I still play my 8/16-bit consoles because of their ability to stimulate my imagination and the straightforward UI’s that are incorporated in each game. Nintendo understands the essence of a good console/game and I doubt that the Nintendo Wii (‘We’ not W 2) won’t provide an enjoyable experience. Ultimately I thought all hope was lost because of the console wars, but Nintendo is about to prove me wrong. Thank you!
