Some of you may remember a little CG anime film known as Appleseed, created by Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell, Dominion: Tank Police). The movie was based on the Japanese manga, and now Sega is publishing a brand new game based on the series to the PS2.
The game is being developed by Dream Factory, creator of the Tobal series, as well as UFC: Tapout, Kakuto Chojin, and The Bouncer and the new Appleseed title is being labeled on it’s Japanese web-site as a fighting action game (which would make sense given the developers fighting and brawling development experience).
Specifics on the game are slim so far, but it is set for release in September and will feature new film clips with the original cast of the upcoming film Ex Machina, which will be produced by John Woo and released in 2007.
Sega themselves are no stranger to adapting anime into video games. In 2004, they produced three games based on the works of Osamu Tezuka (Blood Will Tell and Astro Boy for PlayStation 2, and Astro Boy: The Omega Factor for Game Boy Advance).
