New Fear Effect game “in consideration”
You may remember a report that came out last week by The Hollywood Reporter, that was subsequently ran with by many game publications, who reported what Hollywood had said, namely that a new game in the Fear Effect series was in development and that Rumble in the Bronx director Stanley Tong was in talks to helm the new upcoming film, which would tie in to an upcoming Fear Effect game for “next-generation consoles.” Turns out however that that piece of news from the Hollywood Reporter is bogus according to Eidos.
In an official statement to GameSpot, Eidos had this to say: “There have been some recent reports that Eidos is developing a third Fear Effect title for next-generation consoles,” the UK-based, SCi Entertainment-owned publisher told GameSpot. “Although there is no title currently in development, this is something we are considering at this time and we will update accordingly.”
So the sad news is that there IS NOT a new game in development. But apparently all the uproar from Fear Effect fans was heard, and knowing the power of the franchise, Eidos is considering making a new Fear Effect title. Let’s hope they do. With a new movie coming out, or in the making, the timing couldn’t be better. Don’t let this one slip by Eidos. A successful Fear Effect game would be a nice double-hitter to the come-back of the Tomb Raider franchise with the recent success of Tomb Raider Legend.
