SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters comes to DS

Neo Geo Pocket ColorMore great news out of SNK Playmore following the announcment of Metal Slug Anthology coming to Wii. Some of you may remember a portable system released way back in 1999 called the Neo Geo Pocket Color. While the system itself ended up failing due to the colossal might of Nintendo’s Game Boy and the power of Pokemon, the system had a nice little life and due to it’s home support from SNK, a small library of mostly great games.

Now at long last, one of the system’s best games is finally being ported, finding it’s new home on Nintendo’s DS. Thankfully the game isn’t a straight port but SNK Playmore will be updating it to take advantage of the DS’ unique capabilities. The game is titled SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters DS and is an updated version of Neo Geo Pocket Color’s SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash.

GameSpot’s review had this to say about the original version, “Card Fighter’s Clash is a fun, if simple, collectible-card game that combines some of the best elements of Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering, except that you build decks composed of cards based on characters from various SNK and Capcom games.” And check here for a second opinion on the original game.

Here is what we know so far, more details will be forthcoming at E3.

-SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS is a card battling game featuring characters from both the Capcom and SNK universes.

-Players do battle with decks of cards that have familiar characters like Street Fighter’s Guile, Chun Li, Ken, Ryu, and others, as well as fighters from SNK games such as Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters, and Fatal Fury.

-Will feature touch-screen control to make it easier to select and sort earned cards and battle with opponents, as well as maneuver through the game’s competition structure.

-Expect the Nintendo DS system’s wireless capabilities to come into play to enable multiple players to trade and compete against each other.

No news yet on whether the game will have online Wi-Fi support, but lets hope so.
