DS Lite versus DS & PSP backlight

Here’s a great video review of the original DS versus the new DS Lite and it’s features. Since you’re probably most interested in the improved backlight, here’s the movie*:

Besides now looking very easy on the eyes, it’s also equally slick looking and about twice as bright on the maximum light level as the PSP’s backlight. Check it out yourself:

i guess it isn’t technically the highest brightness [for the PSP] – the AC adaptor is not being used, but how often does anyone use the AC during gameplay?

my only problem with the DS/PSP comparison (besides the PSP not being pluggen in for the true highest brightness), is that you’re comparing a PSP screen showing the selection screen with lots of colors (some quite dark), versus a DS showing pretty much all white. just seems like a more apt comparison could be made if the screens were both from similar games or applications.

From what I’ve seen in various comparisons, the Lite is slightly brighter than the PSP. But not “twice” as bright – that photo is very bad because you need to at least have a similar image on both systems to compare.

And anyone who says to plug the PSP in – I don’t think so because these are portable systems, so the PSP’s extra brightness on AC really doesn’t count.

More important than brightness, is refresh rate. I’ve read reports that the Lite’s screens have a good pixel refresh rate, resulting in very little or no apparent blurring. Whereas the PSP (I own one) has a poor pixel refresh rate and exhibits some pretty bad bluring in certain color combinations (mostly dark colors with reds etc.). If the Lite really is much better in that respect, then I would say the Lite has the superior screens now, despite their relatively small size and low resolution.

please thats a fake,psp backlight is brigther than the one of the DS,and I agree with you “Justme”, psp and ds are portable systems,they dont need to be plugged,I have one PSP and I you have to put it to the brigthest to beat the ds brigthness, its like a “battle” PSP and DS,two great consoles

the nintendo ds lite is so coool Idon’t think that there is a another ds will come out you did good work on making the ds lite.
