New Silent Hill games for PS2 & PSP

Silent Hill 41up mentions that in addition to the Silent Hill movie next month, Konami plans to release The Silent Hill Collection for the PS2. The collection includes versions of Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 4: The Room. The Silent Hill Collection is slated to arrive in stores April 13, a week before the movie hits.

Sources close to 1UP have revealed that Konami is also working on a new Silent Hill for the PSP. Not to be confused with the Silent Hill Experience due later this Spring, this is a proper Silent Hill game - perhaps even the Silent Hill 1 remake that was recently alleged to be in the works (unless that happens to be the PS3 Silent Hill game in development).

42% of stores sell violent games to kids

PS2 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Special EditionThe Federal Trade Commission of America says unauthorized sales of video games considered too mature for children declined last year due to stronger enforcement efforts. The FTC says an undercover investigation of 406 electronic and video games stores found that 42 percent improperly sold games with mature content to children 16 and younger who weren’t accompanied by an adult.

That 2005 figure is a drop from 69 percent in 2003. National chain stores were much more likely to restrict sales of the so-called M-rated games. Only 35 percent improperly sold them, compared to 63 percent for regional or local sellers.

New Super Mario Bros teaser site & 2nd delay

Nintendo DS New Super Mario BrosNintendo launched a teaser site for the New Super Mario Bros. On it is shown that the title’s release has been pushed back to May 21th. That’s on a Sunday, so it’ll be either the day before or after.

No explanation has been posted for the second delay, but they did put up some Mario-themed wallpapers and the promise of some new gameplay videos coming soon. We’re thinking they delayed it to either fine-tune the highly anticipated game, or get enough DS Lite stock together to launch with enough bundles to meet demand, we’ll see when it shows up in May.

Be warned Quake 4 1.1 patchers

Quake 4: Special Editionid has just issued the following warning regarding the Quake IV 1.1 beta patch: “There is a problem with the widescreen functionality that may harm a user’s monitor. We are working on a re-release and will make it available as soon as possible. Please advise your viewers that may be using the current 1.1 beta and/or final to NOT enable widescreen or disable widescreen if they are currently using it.”

The rest of the patch, which adds new features for single and multiplayer - including voice chat and four new maps - should be fine, but you may want to treat the widescreen features with special caution until id gets a proper fix.
