Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney comedy trailer & sequel news

Nintendo DS Phoenix Wright: Ace AttorneyHere’s a hilarious Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney trailer (called Gyakuten Saiban in Japan) originating from last year’s Tokyo Game Show, the translated video sees Phoenix Wright putting competing attorney Edgeworth down regarding his disgraceful lack of knowledge regarding the DS. In related news, the sequel has been confirmed by Capcom for Japan, though no word as of yet on whether it, too, will either be translated into English and have that English language option in the Japanese version like the original did, or if it will even see a release outside of Japan. Phoenix Wright got a US release last year and is set to come out in Europe end March. At least it was a successful enough genre to warrant a second game to be developed in the land of the rising sun.

Yu Suzuki makes Shenmue Online full game promise

ShenmueThe Shenmue series has been missing in action since its first Dreamcast sequel in 2001. Will we ever see the remaining promised 16 chapters of Shenmue?

In an interview with game site Kikizo.com, Shenmue creator and veteran game designer Yu Suzuki shed some light on the missing game series, while confirming that the mysterious multiplayer venture Shenmue Online is still in development. “The story will be finished through games,” said Suzuki. “The MMO will be a game that will have a long lifespan through upgrades and updates. This will allow gradual continuation to the story.”

How DID Duck Hunt on your old NES work?

Question: A friend and I were playing Nintendo, the original eight-bit system, and we played Duck Hunt, a game that requires a “light gun.” I was wondering: How exactly does the Nintendo game “know” where you are pointing the gun on the screen when you shoot ducks?!? Very mind-boggling! –Matt

Cecil answers: You’re going to give yourself such a smack when you hear this one. Stripped of the high-tech accoutrements (by 1980s standards, anyway), it’s the oldest trick in the book. You think you’re using the gun to shoot at the TV, right? But really the TV is shooting the gun.

mech assault phantom war for dsGaming-Age got some pictures of the just announced MechAssault: Phantom War for Nintendo DS. This is the first handheld installment of the series. The touch screen lets players intuitively ‘touch’ the cockpit controls to hack into giant ‘Mechs, eject pilots, switch weapons and check battle techniques.

Gamers experience fast-action, 3D ‘Mech combat on the top screen, while the lower touch screen positions them inside the cockpit at the controls.
