EA to publish 50 mobile phone games in 2006

Motorola RAZR V3c Phone (Verizon Wireless)3 months ago EA announced planned to expand its mobile gaming division by buying Jamdat Mobile, the deal has now been officially approved by shareholders.

The acquisition, which is worth an estimated $680 million (€573/£393 million), was approved at a meeting held last Friday in Santa Monica. EA’s intention to acquire Jamdat, which was first announced in December 2005, and marks the largest move towards consolidation ever made in the mobile market and the largest single acquisition in EA’s history.

On completion of the deal, Jamdat CEO Mitch Lasky will oversee EA’s global mobile gaming business. EA plans to publish more than 50 games for mobile phones over the course of the next 12 months.
