DS Lite redesign by Nintendo!

ds lite redesignNintendo of Japan released the following information just seconds ago:
“Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today announced Nintendo DS Lite, a slimmer version of the best-selling Nintendo DSâ„¢. Also featuring brighter screens, Nintendo DS Lite will launch in Japan in March. Nintendo DS Lite will be less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter.”

He also said: “Nintendo DS has enjoyed extremely strong sales in Japan and around the world, selling more than 14.4 million units worldwide. The Japanese sell-through of the existing Nintendo DS hardware exceeded 5 million within 13 months, which made Nintendo DS the fastest-selling video game system there. Nintendo will announce more information about the availability of Nintendo DS Lite in North America and other territories in the future.”

The new design is thinner, weighs less (from 275 grams to 218), has 4 levels of brightness control, as well as different button placement (the mic & power button have moved as well, and the GBA slot remains). Renamed the Nintendo DS Lite, the new design looks similar to the design of the company’s next-generation console, code-named the Nintendo Revolution. The redesigned handheld also has the same glossy finish, and the visual aesthetic of the buttons could be compared to the Revolution’s controller.

It’s so pretty! I like!

I knew it was coming but I didn’t expect it to be announced so soon, I figured they’d show it/announce at E3.

It sounds very nice! I can’t wait to get one. The only thing that sucks is the fact that I bought when at Christmas when I could’ve waited. Oh well, looks like I’ll just have to get two. Or play my brothers when he buys this one. ;)
