Square Enix’s cult 1999 hit PSOne era RPG, Valkyrie Profile is about to get a breath of new life as the title resurfaces on the PSP. Square Enix announced that the game will be released on Sony’s newest portable game system under the name, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, and is slated for release in Japan on March 2. The game is apparently a direct port, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing considering the positive reviews the original game recieved and the fact that so many have missed out on this little known gem.

The big surprise though came from SquareEnix’s announcement of an actual follow-up to the original game. This all new installment will be released for the PS2 in 2006 and is intitled Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. In the game, the player takes the role of two characters named Silmeria and Alisha, who coexist within the same body. Silmeria is a Valkyrie and the younger sister of Lenneth, the hero of the original Valkyrie Profile. Alisha is the kindhearted princess of Dipan. As punishment for angering the god Odin, he traps Silmeria’s soul into the body of Alisha, and the game tells their story.

Square Enix will open a teaser site for the two Valkyrie Profile games on December 12 at the currently dead URL http://www.square-enix.co.jp/vp/. Additional details on the games will be provided via updates on the site
